67th Annual World Magnesium Conference Opens in Hong Kong
2010-05-17
The first session of the 67th Annual World Magnesium Conference opened Monday in Hong Kong. The conference this year concentrates on not only magnesium and its applications and processes but the environmental impact the industry has worldwide. As this remains a global issue for legislators this year’s conference is very focused on this topic.
Conference Program Chairman Martin Alderman opened the session by welcoming everyone to the conference. More than 400 were in attendance. One key concept to be discussed throughout the conference is the idea of LCA – Life Cycle Assessment and how magnesium from the point of sourcing the raw material to the recycling of a well-used finished product impacts the environment on a global basis. In addition presentations this year focus on a broader commercial perspective and a wider application for magnesium going forward.
The Keynote address was presented by Ringo Li of technology giant Foxconn Group. Alan Clark of Clark & Maron consulting provided an industry update and representatives of the Chinese Magnesium Association provided a review of magnesium developing in China for 2009.
