Chinese Magnesium Association Provides Year in Review
2010-05-18
The Chinese Magnesium Association provided a review of the Chinese magnesium industry for 2009. Based on the association’s reports and analysis for the industry to move forward it must focus on upgrading and optimizing the structure of the industry, adopting clean energy policies, development energy conservation programs, and implementing emission reduction technologies. This also coincides with the external magnesium industry outlook as presented by other organizations.
Chinese magnesium output dropped from 211,000 tons in 2008 to 163,000 tons in 2009. Expansion in China has also slowed. While the traditional producers are still in place there is more expansion of production in the interior regions.
Upgrading and optimizing will continue with the development of new alloys, research and development, innovation and the use of rare earths combined with magnesium. This development is underway at Shanghai Jiaotong University and Changchun Institute. China is rich in rare earth resources and hopes to develop more applications for the rare earth magnesium combination.
