Illinois Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr., voted in favor of H.R. 3226--the Department of Defense Appropriations Act. Jackson said the bill, "makes investments in the training and readiness of our armed forces as well as provides assistance to those who need it most."
"This bill provides urgent help to American workers who have lost their jobs in the recession by providing a two month extension of Unemployment benefits and the COBRA health insurance subsidy. Furthermore, this legislation ensures that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly know as the food stamp program) is provided with sufficient funds to cover the 37 million people currently benefiting from the program."
The FY 2010 Defense Appropriations Bill supports numerous projects for the 2nd District and the State of Illinois including $1,600,000 for Thorium/Magnesium Excavation at the Chicago Magnesium Casting Co. for the continuation of excavation, packaging and shipment of contaminated material to specialized landfills.
